Musky Fishing Tips

Musky fishing is so exciting and boring all at the same time. They call musky fishing the fish of 5000 casts or so. But if you want total fishing excitement and catch the fish of your dreams, use these musky fishing tips to help you catch more musky or just your first one.

Musky fishing is trolling and casting or a good combination of both. Some lakes do not allow motor trolling so make sure you know the rules of the lake or just start casting. And casting a lot you will, with lures like bucktails, spoons, and other baits that are 8 to 12 inches long. Some are made out of wood and others made out of metal and feathers. When musky are hitting they will hit on almost anything that moves fast.

Trolling with a large crankbait or a bucktail is a great way to see if they are biting. Covering a large area of water, around weed beds and over rocky bottoms and sandy humps or tree stumps can be very productive. Musky like to ambush other fish, big fish. They will eat a large bass or a walleye for dinner and northern pike as well as panfish. Keep in mind Musky can get up to 70 pounds or more. The world record caught in Wisconsin was 69 pounds 15 ounces! When fishing for musky, make sure you have medium to heavy or heavy rod and reel sets.

If you are not having any luck catching any Muskie this particular day, try fishing for walleye or bass. As a rule if you find them there may be a musky around the same area and you just might catch one.

Always remember that musky eat walleye, pike, bass and panfish. So fish all the weed beds, rocky areas, fallen down trees, lily pads and any other structure that may be in the lake. That is where the muskies will be looking for food.
